Recently, I took a trip with my dog to Usedom, an island in Germany that is located at the Baltic Sea.
In this post, I will share one of the walks that we took around the Peenemünde area.
If you are keen to spend a few days on the island, do check out my post on where to in Usedom with a dog – the hotel I stayed at offers a terrace with a gorgeous view. Also, do check out my others posts on walks around Karlshagen and Heringsdorf.
THE ROUTE
In Peenemünde, you can explore the harbor which features an interesting museum boat, and then take a walk to a hidden beach. The route is shown on the map below.

The route starts at the harbor in Peenemünde.
It’s worth it to spend a few minutes here to marvel at the boats. Especially the museum boat is worth a look – but only from the outside. Dogs are not allowed to enter!
After visiting the harbor, make your way past the Halbinsel Resort Peenemünde hotel and take a left onto a sandy path.

You will pass by some fields along the coast.
Make sure to take in the scenery as you walk. There are a few different spots where you can stop for a moment to enjoy the views.

As you continue along the path, eventually you will reach a small hidden beach.
This is a great spot for you and your pup to sit down for a minute, have a rest and drink some water. Please bring along water for your dog, the water at the beach is salty and not suitable.
After the beach, you can continue along the path for a bit longer. As you reach the end of the path, just turn around and walk back the same way that you came. If you get back to the harbor before 4pm, you can have a snack at the Antiquitäten shop.
HOW LONG IT TAKES AND WHO IT’S FOR
This is a short walk and should take you less than one hour. It is a nice, quiet route though, so I do recommend it.
As mapped, the route has roughly 3km in length. The route is completely flat, so it suitable for anyone. Since some of the way is through sand, it may not be suitable for a pram or a wheelchair.
THE BOTTOM LINE
My dog and me enjoyed this walk a lot. It offers different terrain and lots of opportunities to sniff around, as you are surrounded by nature along the whole way. The beach was a real highlight. The sea is very calm in this area with nearly no waves, perfect for my pup to play in.

Bonus tip:
If you take this walk in the evening, try to time it to coincide with the sunset.
You shall be handsomely rewarded!
