Where to stay in Bad Saarow with a dog

In February, I took a trip with my dog to Bad Saarow. We stayed at Hotel am Werl. Overall, it was a good choice aside from one very annoying downside. For a full breakdown of my hotel experience, read the review below.

If you are looking for things to do with your dog in the area, do check out my post on my trip with my dog to Bad Saarow.

DOG FRIENDLINESS

My dog was welcome here. While she was not allowed in the breakfast room, there is a terrace that can be used once the weather is nicer. So if you come during a nicer part of the year, your dog can join you for breakfast outside.

THE LOCATION

This accommodation is not directly in the center of Bad Saarow but a little further out. Personally, I enjoyed the location because the forest was right outside and it was very quiet, good for switching off completely for a few days.

Walking towards the main part of Bad Saarow

The center of Bad Saarow is very walkable from the hotel and the walk is very recommendable. It takes you along the lake and has plenty of spots to sit down and enjoy the view for a moment.

The one downside of the location is that there was pretty much no restaurant nearby. For me this was not an issue as I had taken my own food along in anticipation of this, but it is just something to be aware of. If you do bring your own food, you can keep it in a communal fridge which is nice.

THE ROOM

I need to start this section with an apology: I did not actually take pictures of the room as I was not thinking about this blog yet when I took this trip. However, rest assured that the room was very nice.

It featured a double bed, a closet, a table with two very comfortable chairs and a TV. It felt recently renovated and I was pleasantly surprised about this. On the pictures I had seen when booking the room, it looked very old fashioned and a bit run down. This was not the case for my room at all. It felt modern and in good shape.

The one complaint that I have is that the room was not quiet. I had the room right by the entrance, and the door made a very loud brrrrzzzzzzt sound every time that someone entered. It was clearly audible from inside the room and my dog went crazy every time it happened.

As this was the main entrance, it happened quite a lot. I had to take her outside and enter multiple times myself, rewarding her at the sound each time, in order to at least calm her down a little bit. Still, most times that someone came in, she startled and often barked too. We did not have the most relaxing stay because of this. So make sure to ask for a room that is not directly at the entrance!

THE SERVICE

There was almost no service at this hotel. When I arrived no one was there and I was a bit confused on what to do as I had received no instructions about the check-in. I called the hotel and thankfully someone picked up and explained how to check myself in.

Since it was self-check-in, I was not explained anything about the hotel or the area, and this also was not done the next morning when I went for breakfast. So I was pretty much on my own with regard to that. It was fine for me, but again, just something to be aware of. If you enjoy a lot of service, this may not be the place for you.

Breakfast in the room

However, the staff who was around for breakfast was friendly and also very helpful with allowing me to take breakfast to my room both due to the corona situation and so that I could be with my dog. She gave me a tray and I took food from the buffet back to my room.

The breakfast was very nice and varied! Of course the picture only shows what I took back, there were plenty of other options on the buffet. I was very pleased with it.

THE VALUE

For two nights, I ended up paying 116 EUR. To me, this was very fair value. The hotel was a little towards the “no frills” side but it everything was in good condition and the breakfast was nice. Also, there is free parking in front of the hotel.

THE BOTTOM LINE

I can recommend staying in Hotel am Werl with a dog if you are looking for a more quiet place rather than something very central within Bad Saarow. Overall, I’d give the hotel a 4/5, however for the particular room that I had I need to downgrade this to a 3/5. If you stay here, do yourself a favour and ask for a room that is not directly at the entrance. You will have much better rest as a result!
