Where to stay in Gößweinstein (Franconian Switzerland) with a dog

During my trip to Franconian Switzerland (or “Fränkische Schweiz”), I stayed at Landgasthof Frankenstern in a small village called Gößweinstein. Overall, it was a great choice and I can certainly recommend it. For a full breakdown of my hotel experience, read the review below.

If you are looking for inspiration on what to do in the area, take a look at my post on my trip to Pottenstein with my dog – we explored a part of Franconian Switzerland that includes a mountain that looks like a dragon!

DOG FRIENDLINESS

My dog was very welcome here. Already during check-in, it was pointed out that she is welcome in all parts of the hotel, even in the restaurant. That was really nice! During my stay, everyone was really friendly towards her as well.

THE LOCATION

Hiking trail near the hotel

This accommodation is in a nice place, with a connection to a hiking trail within a few meters of the hotel.

Gößweinstein is in the heart of Franconian Switzerland and many of the sights of the region can be reached in just a few minutes by car. If you’re looking for things to do in the area, do check out my post on taking a trip with your dog in Franconian Switzerland.

In case that you don’t travel with your own car, there is also a bus stop directly in front of the hotel. Very convenient!

The hotel features an attached restaurant that offers food continuously throughout the day until 8pm. I found this very helpful, as I have previously stayed in places either without food, or where food services was interrupted or finished much earlier. There are are also a few more restaurants nearby, so you won’t go hungry.

Overall this location worked well for me and I would certainly stay here again.

THE ROOM

The room at Landgasthof Frankenstern

At Landgasthof Frankenstern, I chose a room with a balconey. The room featured a twin bed, a closet, a table with two chairs and a TV.

To me, the beds were very comfortable, and the room had a good size. I had enough space for my dog’s sleeping box without it ever being in the way.

My only small complaint would be that I was not the biggest fan of the chairs. They were not terrible, but not very suitable for working on the laptop. However, I do give the hotel props for having two different chairs in the room, so that you can vary your position and choose the one that you find more comfortable. One thing that would make a nice addition to the room is a small fridge.

The bathroom at Landgasthof Frankenstern

The bathroom was in very good condition and seemed recently modernized, but it felt a bit small. In particular, I was lacking counter space to keep my toiletries and other items comfortably. Still, for a few nights this was not a problem at all. Shampoo and shower gel as well as a hairdryer were provided in the room.

The room did have dark curtains available to keep out some of the light, but they were not black out curtains. You also do hear some noise from the street when cars pass, but overall I would rate it as a relatively quiet room. No complaints there!

THE SERVICE

I rate the service at this hotel very highly. Everyone that I interacted with was very friendly and keen to help. During check-in I received all the information I needed and in the restaurant, the staff frequently checked in to see if I needed anything else during breakfast.

The breakfast at Landgasthof Frankenstern.

Speaking of breakfast, is was great. When I arrived, I was informed that I was the only guest for breakfast on the next day, so it would be served at the table instead of as a buffet. I was able to choose between different options, and I was very positively surprised the next day.

The breakfast left nothing to be desired and there were plenty of extras that I could have asked for, including freshly prepared scrambled eggs.

My only complaint would be that it was far too much for one person, so I did feel a bit bad about not finishing it all. It probably could have fed a family. The food was tasty and excellent value, because breakfast was included with the price of the room.

Since I had the “do not disturb” on my room, I was even approached by the housekeeper to see if I needed anything extra for the room while I had breakfast. That is going above and beyond!

Another thing that stood out to me was that there are some free snacks available for hotel guests in case that you get hungry at night. So great!

THE VALUE

For two nights, I ended up paying 136 EUR. This already includes breakfast as well as free parking in front of the hotel, and my dog was free of charge too. Given the size of the room as well as the great service, I rate this hotel as having excellent value.

THE BOTTOM LINE

I can wholeheartedly recommend staying at Landgasthof Frankenstern with a dog if you are looking for a quiet place in a good location with great value for money. Overall, I’d give it a 5/5. I would not hesitate to stay here again to explore more of the region!
