This April, I took a trip with my dog to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. We stayed at Berggasthof Panorama. It has absolutely amazing views of the mountains. Overall, it was a good choice, and I’d stay here again for the views alone. For a full breakdown of my hotel experience, read the review below.
If you are looking for things to do with your dog in the area, do check out my post on a trip with my dog to Garmisch-Partenkirchen as well as our day trip to Eibsee which I highly recommend.
DOG FRIENDLINESS
Honestly, I am not sure how welcome my dog was here. For most of my stay, I did not meet any staff members, so I can’t really tell either way.
THE LOCATION
This accommodation is a little outside of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and a bit up in the mountains. You can walk down into town through a small park within a few minutes though.

In my view, the location cannot be beat due to its breathtaking mountain panorama views. This is the main reason why I stayed here, and also the reason why I would come back to this hotel without hesitation.
I could sit on the balcony for hours and just marvel at the view. I found it particularly nice to watch the sun go down, watch the lights come on in the city below and see the stars come out slowly. Simply gorgeous!
THE ROOM
The room was functional. It featured a double bed, a closet, a desk with a chair as well as a second slightly more loungey chair and a TV. There was also a kettle as well as some free tea and coffee which I appreciated. Always nice to have a hot drink after a long day exploring the mountains.
I slept heavenly in the bed. Very comfortable! Also, the curtains kept it nice and dark in the room, which I always find conducive to getting a good rest.
The bathroom was decent too. I very much appreciated the ample counter space, which is sometimes an issue in hotels. The bathroom here was a good size and did not feel cramped. A hairdryer was also provided.

Of course, my room also had a balcony which enabled the fantastic views. If you stay here, make sure that you get a room with a view on the mountain panorama. It’s the reason to stay in this hotel so don’t miss out.
THE SERVICE
Not sure what to say here, really. Service was hard to come by. There was no one there when I arrived, but I had received instructions on how to check myself in. On the arrival form, I was asked if I wanted breakfast but I did not know if I could bring my dog or take the food to the room. So I emailed them but never heard back. I can tell you that breakfast costs 14.50 EUR per person per day (ouch!), so maybe it’s not so bad that I never got to try it.
After returning from a trip to Eibsee with my dog the parking lot was full, so I called the hotel to ask what to do. It took them minutes to answer. Then I got passed on to another person who promptly hung up on me, only to then wave at me from the parking lot and tell me to “just park down there”. She disappeared so quickly that I could not confirm where exactly she wanted me to park. So I went inside the attached restaurant to ask again to make sure that I was in the right spot and not in the way. I spoke to two more people and was finally told to “just leave it there”.
Honestly, not the friendliest interactions. I have received much warmer service in other places and I always like to have a person present during check-in to get some information about the area and clarify things such as how breakfast works. If a place costs more than 100 EUR per night, I do expect a minimum of service and friendliness.
THE VALUE
For two nights, I ended up paying 250 EUR. Not exactly cheap, especially since breakfast was not included. If it wasn’t for the panoramic views, I would find this too expensive. However, the view makes everything worth it.
THE BOTTOM LINE
I can recommend staying in Berggasthof Panorama with a dog if you are looking for a place that has gorgeous mountain views and don’t mind receiving lukewarm service. Overall, I’d give the hotel a 5/5 for the view, but a 3/5 otherwise due to the expensive breakfast as well as the perceived lack of service. So on balance, it’s a 4/5.
