A trip with my dog to Titisee (Part II)

This April, I took a trip with my dog to Titisee, a lake located in the Black Forest (“Schwarzwald”) in Badem-Württemberg. Titisee is a lovely place to take your dog, as there are plenty of opportunities to go for walks as well as enjoy the water.

So many opportunities in fact, that I broke down this post into two parts. If you are looking to stay in the area for a few days, make sure to check out Part I as well, along with my post on where to stay in Titisee with your dog.

THE ROUTE

This walk is all about the Titisee lake. We will first discover it from the above and then get on it! We start this walk at Schweizer’s boat rental at the promenade in Titisee.

If you are just in town for a day trip, you can take advantage and leave your vehicle in the parking lot Kurhaus which is nearby. There are also restrooms directly at the parking lot for your convenience.

Start of the route along Seebachstraße.

To start the walk, we head up Seebachstraße. Although we are starting right in the center of Titisee, we find ourselves directly in nature, with gorgeous views of fields and forest.

We take the second underpass to cross the big street and enter the forest from there.

As we walk up and into the forest, we stay right at the fork and then immediately choose the left route, which is slightly less steep. We will come down the hill on the right-most route later on, so we will have a chance to see that too.

Where to walk up the hill.

The Google Maps route that I shared above is accurate for the way up the hill, so when in doubt, use that for orientation.

As you will note the route is quite steep and takes a few sharp turns, so make sure that you stay on track. You do not want to take a wrong turn as you head up and then need to come down again.

We made it.

After surviving the steep way up, we finally get our reward: A breathtaking view over Titisee lake from above.

We were both in need of a rest at that point. Thankfully, there are some tree trunks at the top which make for some nice impromptu seats.

But as we all know: What goes up must come down.

So after taking a short rest and enjoying the view for a while, it is time to start the descent.

Time to head down.

To go down the hill, we follow the path that leads down directly in front of the viewpoint.

While the hardest part is over, the way down is also quite steep and there is a lot of debris on the route. So please be sure to watch your step and keep an eye on your pup too.

Walking along Gutach stream.

Eventually, we get back to the first fork in the route that we encountered. We exit the forest and cross the underpass again, but this time, we choose the path along the Gutach stream instead of walking on the road.

If your dog is like mine, they will relish the opportunity to have a drink and play in the water.

When we come upon a small bridge, we cross the river and continue on the other side to take a different route back to Titisee.

Eventually, we get back to the promenade and make our way to Schweizer’s boat rental. It’s time to get to know the lake from a different perspective!

Pedal boats for rental.

At Schweizer’s you have the option to rent a pedal boat or an electric boat.

One hour in a pedal boat costs 12 EUR, and if you want to explore the whole lake you do need at least one hour. If you want to relax a bit on the lake as well, go for 90 minutes!

In case that you prefer to chill after the strenuous walk to the viewpoint or can’t pedal for health reasons, you can opt for one of the electric boats instead.

They start at 18 EUR for 30 minutes though, so do consider getting some exercise and sparing your wallet that pain if you can.

Are you ready to ride?

Renting a boat was my absolutely favorite thing during my trip to Titisee.

It’s a fabulous way to explore the lake. My dog was a little sceptical at first, but then she enjoyed the ride.

View from the boat.

From the boat, you get to enjoy great views all along the way.

Also, you can just let yourself float along for a little while and experience true tranquility.

To me, this was a perfect way to relax after the walk to the viewpoint as well as a nice opportunity to see the lake from a different perspective.

100% recommended.

HOW LONG IT TAKES AND WHO IT’S FOR

The walk up to the viewpoint and back into town took me around two hours. The route is very steep both on the way up (good fitness required!) as well as on the way down (please be careful!).

If your fitness or health does not allow you to walk this route, you can also reach the viewpoint by car instead, or you can simply skip this portion and just enjoy the lake itself.

The boat rental is suitable for almost anyone. If you don’t fancy pedalling or can’t, just get an electric boat instead! To have enough time to explore the whole lake, I’d suggest at least 90 minutes for this part.

THE BOTTOM LINE

This is a challenging walk that has a great reward – a beautiful view over Titisee from above. To me, it was well worth it.

I also loved exploring the lake by boat. It was very peaceful and I had a fabulous time. I can’t recommend this trip highly enough!

Bonus tip: While the circular route around lake Titisee is not very nice on foot (lots of asphalt), it’s a great route to take by bike. If you have extra time, why not rent a bike, get some exercise and take your pup along?
