Where to stay in Titisee with a dog

This April, I took a trip with my dog to Titisee, a beautiful place in the black forest (“Schwarzwald”). We stayed at Brugger’s. It has nice views of the Titisee lake and good service. Overall, it was a nice choice, and I would definitely stay here again. However, it is on the expensive side. For a full breakdown of my hotel experience, read the review below.

If you are looking for things to do with your dog in the area, do check out my posts on a trip with my dog to Titisee, Part I and Part II. In particular, I recommend renting a boat to explore the lake. So much fun!

DOG FRIENDLINESS

Dog welcome pack at Brugger’s.

My dog was welcome here. There was even a little welcome package in the room just for her, consisting of a bowl, a blanket, a pad as well as allergy friendly treats. So nice!

Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed inside the restaurant or the breakfast area though. However, you can bring your furry friends along on the terrace when the weather is nice.

THE LOCATION

View from the terrace.

Brugger’s hotel is located directly at lake Titisee. I had a room with a terrace looking directly at the lake which was very nice. If you do stay here, I highly recommend getting a room with a terrace facing the lake.

Behind the hotel, there is a forest which is great for walking your pup (see this post).

The private hotel “beach”.

In addition, the hotel has its own private beach area with lake access. This was one of the reasons why I chose this accommodation.

I have to say, I was a little underwhelmed with this though. “Beach” to me suggests sand, but there was no sand to be found. It was basically just a private garden area at the lake. Still nice, but not exactly what I had in mind.

The town center with the promenade is just minutes away. To me, the location was ideal. Close to everything and yet close to nature.

THE ROOM

The room was nice.

It featured a single bed, an open closet, a table with a chair as well as a TV and a fridge.

I slept very well in the bed. Also, the curtains kept the room relatively dark for a good quality sleep.

The bathroom was great. I very much appreciated the generous counter space, which is sometimes an issue. The shower was very comfortable to use. A hairdryer was provided.

There was also a kettle along with some free teas which I appreciated (but no coffee!).

The one complaint I have is that there was no area suited for working. The table and chair were not comfortable to work from at all. I ended up working from the balcony, but wifi was hard to come by out there.

Also, at night some giant spiders started appearing on the terrace on occasion. Not my favorite thing. I slept with closed windows!

THE SERVICE

The service at Brugger’s was very good. Everyone was friendly and happy to help whereever possible. But to be honest, that’s expected in a 4-star hotel.

What I particularly appreciated and don’t consider to be the norm is that small luggage carts were available. As I always bring my dog’s large box along I definitely have more than my fair share of luggage to shlep to the room at every hotel. Luggage cart + elevator? I love this hotel!

Yes, this is breakfast for 1 person.

Another plus point of the service here: Room Service!

Having breakfast in the room cost 5 EUR, but trust me, it is more than worth it. They bring you enough food for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

And since there is a fridge in the room, you can actually make sandwiches from the extras to take with you and munch on during the day. Plus, you can enjoy breakfast on your private terrace with your pup.

One of my dinners. Yum!

Since my dog was not allowed in the restaurant I also ordered room service for dinner on a few occasions.

Let me say: Starting from around 25 EUR with tip, it is not cheap. But the food was excellent. So if you are looking for a bit of a splurge, don’t hesitate!

One thing that was a little annoying: The hotel advertises laundry service but unfortunately that was suspended because of covid.

Overall though, the service was very enjoyable.

THE VALUE

For four nights, I ended up paying roughly 700 EUR including dog surcharge. This place is definitely on the luxurious side and the price reflects that. Still, my stay was very comfortable and I enjoyed it a lot. So I would consider it fair value.

THE BOTTOM LINE

I can definitely recommend staying in Brugger’s with a dog if you are looking for a bit of a splurge for yourself and don’t mind that your pup is not welcome in the restaurants. It is well located and has great service. However, it is on the expensive side and if I travel to Titisee again I might look out for slightly more economic options. I rate it a 4/5 overall.
