A trip with my dog to Sillans-La-Cascade

This April, I took a trip with my dog to Sillans-La-Cascade, a small town located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur region of France.

We just stopped here on the way to Les-Salles-sur-Verdon where we went to visit Verdon Gorges. I had read about the waterfall that the town is named after, so we wanted to check it out.

THE ROUTE

We start at the Cascade parking lot. This parking lot is free outside of the high season, but as I visited in April I ended up paying 2 EUR for 1 hour. Not exactly cheap, but it is close to the entrance to the trail that leads to the bottom of the waterfall.

This wall tells you that you’re on the right track.

I just wish they would put better signs up. It was quite tricky to know where to go and many other people also looked lost.

I ended up finding a route down to the waterfall, but there must a different viewpoint as well where you can see the top. Maybe you will have more luck finding it!

If you see this bamboo wall next to you, you’re on the right track to the bottom of the falls. Just keep following along and you will eventually see the waterfall.

Unfortunately, from this trail, you do not get a really good view of the fall itself. Below is the best shot that I was able to take… Yea… Not so great.

On the other hand, the basin at the bottom is lovely with completely turquoise water. It is a little rugged but my dog loved it. She was very happy there.

We also passed many other visitors with pups, so this place is definitely dog friendly. However, there are numerous signs asking you to keep your dog on a leash, so please be kind and do so!

HOW LONG IT TAKES AND WHO IT’S FOR

This is a relatively easy route, but it is a bit rocky and the way back is uphill. I found it doable without great exertion, but please come prepared with solid footwear. I do not think that it is suitable for prams. Including looking for the route we spent one hour here.

THE BOTTOM LINE

This is a dog friendly route that takes you close to the bottom of the waterfall. It is nice, but I would not go out of my way to visit. If you’re in the area, it makes for a decent stop. But it could really benefit from better signposting.
