Where to stay in San Pedro del Pinatar near Murcía with a dog

In November, I took a very short trip with my dog to the Murcía region in Spain. We chose to stay at this apartment which aside from a very good location also offers a private saline pool. Can you believe that I didn’t take a picture of the pool? Like I said: Short trip!

If you are looking for a place to stay near Murcía with your dog, this is a decent place to stay, but I would actually you this holiday home which I stayed in during a later trip more. For a full breakdown of my experience in this apartment, read the review below.

If you are looking for things to do in the area, this is a great hike to take with your dog to Baterías de Cenizas!

DOG FRIENDLINESS

My dog was very welcome here. The host was super excited about her and directly told me that she has a dog of a similar age too. She also told me that of course my dog would be allowed to swim in the saline pool, since it has a very good filtering system. Wow! I never even expected that, usually dogs are not allowed in the pool. Unfortunately we did not get a chance to try the pool, but this place is definitely among the most dog friendly I’ve stayed in. Superb!

THE LOCATION

The apartment is in a great location, which was the main reason that I chose it. I had limited time in the area and wanted to make sure that I could visit the Salinas de San Pedro. For that, the apartment is perfectly located. Within about 10 minutes of walking, you can reach Avenida del Puerto.

From there, you have two options: If you head left, you will reach the mean area of Salinas de San Pedro, an area that is perfect for bird watching. You can see flamingos as well as cormorants and many other types of birds there. I certainly recommend coming here during sunset. It is a sight to behold!

If you walk right instead, you will eventually encounter the famous mud bathing spots. I did not take a mud bath, but my pup certainly had a dip into the sea. There is also a very wide promenade that is perfect for a stroll or even a bike ride.

If you’re in town for just a short time, this location allows you to see some of the highlights.

THE APARTMENT

The apartment itself was comfortable. It should be noted that it is a basement unit basically. There are windows, but still not too much light comes into the apartment. For one night, I was not worried about this but if I was staying longer this might have bothered me.

In the apartment there are two bedrooms, a large living room and kitchen area as well as a bathroom. Plus, you have exclusive use of the outdoor saline pool and the pool area. Again, I am sorry that I did not take a picture of this, but trust me: It is there, and it looked very nice!

Overall, the apartment was nice, but since the hosts live in the property too, it did not feel very private. Thankfully, they were super kind, but when I was already trying to sleep I could still hear them talking on the terrace for example. Not super conducive to a restful night, but to be fair I was going to sleep very early as I needed to leave early the next morning (did I mention that this was a very short trip?).

THE SERVICE

The hosts were amazing. Super kind, great communication and they were very keen to make sure that my stay was as comfortable as possible. The host even brought me some specialty Colombian coffee. So nice!

THE VALUE

At this holiday home, I paid 115 EUR for just one night. If you are traveling with family and need all the bedrooms, I’d say this is still decent value. For me as a single traveler, I found it a bit steep. A few weeks later I rented an entire holiday home in a similar location for 65 EUR per night, but of course that did not have a private pool.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Overall, the apartment was a good choice and the pool is of course a great addition. However, on a subsequent trip I stayed in nearby El Mojón in a beautiful holiday home instead, which I would rate higher. Still, this stay was overall comfortable and in a good location. Coupled with lovely hosts, I’d rate this one a solid 4/5.
