A trip with my dog to All Saints Waterfalls in the Black Forest (Germany)

This March, I took a trip with my dog to the All Saints Waterfalls (Allerheiligen Wasserfälle) in the Black Forest of Germany. This is a short hike with some beautiful views and a lot of stairs – you’ve been warned!

THE ROUTE

If you’re coming by car, you can park directly in front of the entrance to the hiking route. The parking lot is free of charge. There are also some picnic tables available.

The hike in theory follows a circular route – first, you go up a lot of stairs alongside the waterfalls to the monastery at the top, and then back down towards the parking lot on a forest road.

However, I would recommend to hike down the stairs again instead, it is much prettier that way.

The route up towards the monastery and alongside the waterfalls is very pretty. Every few metres, you get a different view of the falls.

My dog greatly enjoyed it as well, and we did meet a few other pups and their owners along the way, so it seems quite popular.

Near the top, you have the option to take a small detour to discover a memorial (Ehrenmal des Schwarzwaldvereins) and you can also visit the monastery ruins.

There is a public toilet near the monastery as well – free of charge and in great condition when I visited.

HOW LONG IT TAKES AND WHO IT’S FOR

It took us around 30 minutes to reach the top of the waterfalls where the monastery is located – however do keep in mind that the ascent involves lots of stairs, so your time may vary. Hiking back down through the forest took slightly longer, but again I would recommend simply taking the stairs again which should also be quicker.

Please do be aware that the walking trails are not maintained in winter, so I would recommend this hike only one the weather allows.

THE BOTTOM LINE

The All Saints Waterfalls are a very nice place to visit with your dog. I would recommend taking a trip to do this hike or even taking a small detour to your route if possible.
