Where to stay (or not) in Beaune (France) with a dog

Recently, I took a road trip through France with my dog. One of the stopover points we chose was Beaune, where we stayed at this hotel. It was a solid choice overall, however I cannot recommend the breakfast and would probably look elsewhere next time.

For a full breakdown of my hotel experience, read the review below.

DOG FRIENDLINESS

My dog was very welcome here. When I arrived, the receptionist was really excited and we ended up talking about dogs for nearly 30 minutes. She used to have a terrier mix and is now considering a doodle or maybe a Lagotto. My pup got lots of cuddles from her. Still, in line with the hotel policy, there was a small surcharge added to my bill for the dog.

THE LOCATION

If you’re looking for a stopover point near the highway, the location of this hotel is great. It is also close to a big supermarket and multiple food options. For my purposes, the location was ideal. Unfortunately, it was mostly raining while I was there, so we did not get to explore Beaune as much as planned.

THE ROOM

The room was quite bare-bones. A bed, a clothes rack, a small table and a chair – that was it.

The bathroom reminded me of an airplane toilet – basically a small “cabin” with a toilet, sink and “shower” squeezed in. The shower was just separated from the rest of the bathroom with a curtain. Still, for one night, it was functional.

THE SERVICE

The service was pretty good overall. When I had a problem with some noise in my initial room, the receptionist switched it without hesitation.

The only thing that I cannot recommend was the breakfast. While it cost just 7.90 EUR, it simply was not worth it to me.

The choice was extremely limited, with no breakfast meats provided and only one type of cheese, which did not lend itself to being put on the bread either.

There was just toast and baguette, no croissants or similar. You also had to boil your own eggs, and there was no fresh fruit or vegetables at all.

If I stay here again, I would not opt for the breakfast. Unhealthy and not satisfying to survive a long day on the road. However, I do have to give some credit as I was allowed to take the breakfast up to the room so that my dog would not be alone.

THE VALUE

For one nights, I ended up paying 65 EUR for the room, which included on-site parking. Together with the dog charge and the dissatisfying breakfast as well as the city tax, it ended up being around 78 EUR. I would say this is certainly at the edge of acceptable.

Overall, for one night I had a decent stay. But I would probably look for alternative options next time. Simply not the best value.

THE BOTTOM LINE

While it was not a bad stay, it was not really great either. I would rate this hotel as a 3 out of 5. With a better breakfast and slightly more amenities in the room (a kettle, maybe?) it could easily get to a higher score though. The location is the main selling point here.
