In April of 2024, I took a trip with my dog to Amboise. During our stay, we had a problem with our initial accommodation so we found ourselves looking for an alternative just before midnight.
Thankfully, the Novotel Amboise was still open and happy to receive us. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as we had a very comfortable stay. For a full breakdown of my hotel experience, read the review below.
If you are looking to spend more time in the Amboise area, I recommend that you have a look at this hike through the vineyards in Vernou-sur-Brenne as well. It was very pretty!
DOG FRIENDLINESS
My dog was very welcome here. I honestly cannot remember if there was a surcharge applied but I do think so. I was mostly just happy that they were able to accommodate us at really short notice.
THE LOCATION
The hotel was in a good location for exploring Amboise on foot. It took around 25 minutes to walk right into the centre of the town.
Amboise is most famous for the Château d’Amboise as well as the Clos Lucé which was once home to none other than Leonardo da Vinci. While it is not a large place, Amboise is a cute little town and we enjoyed walking around the river Loire and enjoying the views during the day.
THE ROOM
The hotel room was very comfortable, with a large bed, a desk and even a couch. The bathroom was also quite luxurious, featuring a nice a bathtub.
THE SERVICE
The service at this hotel was exceptional. As mentioned before, we needed alternative accommodation on short notice at around midnight.
Thankfully, the Novotel was happy to receive us.
I will never forget the very nice gentleman who was trying to check us in at this odd hour while his computer system was doing some sort of nightly update.
He was apologising profusely while I was simply so happy to have a place to stay for the night with my dog.
The next morning started with a fabulous and late breakfast which we were allowed to take to the room without any issue.
From calling to ask about the possibility of a stay around midnight, through check-in and all the way to check-out, every interaction with the staff was very kind and caring.
THE VALUE
I cannot recall the price for this stay as I did not book it only, but I know it wasn’t cheap. It was worth every cent though, that is for sure. The room was comfortable and the treatment of the staff throughout was truly first class.
THE BOTTOM LINE
If I stay in the Amboise area again, this hotel will be my first choice right away. Even though it isn’t the cheapest option, the stay and in particular the service was flawless. An undeniable 5 out of 5 for me.
