In March of 2024, I took a trip with my dog to visit the “Sentier des Ocres” or Ochre trail in Roussillon. This is a truly special place to visit in the Provence area. We greatly enjoyed marveling at the natural colours in the rock formations.
THE ROUTE
If you come by car, you can park at the Ocres parking lot which is right next to the entrance to the Sentier des Ocres. This parking lot is paid but was quite affordable with a charge of 4 EUR for the day.
There is an additional charge of 3.50 EUR to enter the Ochre Trail. Dogs were welcome, but of course had to stay on the leash.
There are two routes through the clay mountains. We chose the longer one, which took around 50 minutes to complete.

Seeing the different natural rock formations and all the different shades of colours was truly spectacular. So vibrant and unique!
HOW LONG IT TAKES AND WHO IT’S FOR

There are two routes that you can take, a shorter one and a longer one. I would definitely recommend choosing the longer route.
It still takes only around one hour and although there is some up and down, it is still quite manageable and the place is really gorgeous.
Add some extra time to your estimate if you also want to walk around the village which is also quite cute.
THE BOTTOM LINE
This trip to the Sentier des Ocres was very worth it. It is a beautiful, unique and interesting place that was great to explore with my dog. If you are traveling through the area, don’t miss this one!
