A trip with my dog to Grenen in Jutland (Denmark)

In the fall of 2022, I took a trip with my dog to Denmark. During this vacation, we visited Grenen which is northernmost point of Denmark on Jutland. It also where you can observe a very unique phenomenon, as it is where two different seas meet.

If you are considering to take a trip to Denmark with your dog, you may also be interested in my review of traveling by ferry from Rostock in Germany to Gedser in Denmark with a dog. I can also recommend the apartment that we stayed at in Skagen which is not far from Grenen, as well as visiting the migrating dune Råbjerg Mile which is also nearby.

In this article, I will tell you all about our visit to the northern tip of Denmark.

THE ROUTE

Grenen is a very unique place. It is the most northern point in Denmark and it is also the meeting place of two seas. But we will come to that in a moment.

The visit to Grenen starts at this parking lot which is free of charge except during the summer months of June, July and August. There is also a kiosk where you can find restrooms and refreshments.

Starting from there and walking towards the tip of Grenen, you will first come across remnants of military installations. Back in World War II, the German army built a number of fortifications in Grenen, including a radar station and numerous bunkers.

The route continues along the beach towards the very tip of Jutland which is the next highlight of this visit.

Right at the most northern point of Grenen lies the junction of two different seas. It is the meeting point of Skagerrak which is part of the northern sea, and the Kattegat sea.

Can you tell that the waves from two different seas are colliding right here? Definitely a unique natural spectacle to witness.

Please do take care as the currents here are very strong and swimming is not permitted, neither for humans nor for dogs. Do keep your pup leashed at all times to be safe.

HOW LONG IT TAKES AND WHO IT’S FOR

We spent around one hour walking from the parking lot up to the point where the two seas meet and back.

It is an easy walk along the beach that is suitable for almost everyone. My dog had plenty of fun sniffing and digging around in the sand as well.

THE BOTTOM LINE

If you are in the area, Grenen is worth a short visit with your dog. It was interesting to learn about the history of the most northern point in Denmark and my dog enjoyed the beach as well.
