In the fall of 2022, I took a trip with my dog to Denmark. During this vacation, we visited the Råbjerg Mile, a moving dune on Jutland.

But in this article, I will tell you all about our visit to the largest migrating dune in Northern Europe.
THE VISIT
We parked at the main parking lot, which is free of charge. There were also some informational boards that explain more about the dune. Unfortunately I don’t speak Danish, but the illustrations were helpful to still get the gist of it. I took away that the Råbjerg Mile moves between 13 and 17 metres per year. That’s a lot!
From the parking lot there is a short stretch at the back end of the dune where you still encounter vegetation. After that, it’s all sand, sand and sand as far as the eye can see. Pretty impressive.
When we came, we were all alone and my dog had all the sand to herself. She loved it and immediately started to dig around. Definitely a fun place for a pup to visit!
HOW LONG IT TAKES AND WHO IT’S FOR
We only had a quick visit to the Råbjerg Mile, spending around half an hour walking around the dune.
Of course you spend more time here if you wish. The shifting dune covers an area of around 2 kilometres and is up to 40 metres high, so you can do some proper hiking here if you wish. Please do pay attention though, as you may encounter some quicksand.
THE BOTTOM LINE
The Råbjerg Mile moving dune is a fun place to visit with your dog. If you are traveling through Jutland, I do recommend making a short stop here.
