A trip with my dog to Møns Klint cliffs on Møn island in Denmark

In the fall of 2022, I took a trip with my dog to Denmark. We came by ferry from Rostock in Germany to Gedser in Denmark and eventually made our way from Zealand over to Jutland and Funen, visiting different places on the way.

During this vacation, we also visited the white limestone and chalk cliffs of Møn (known locally as Møns Klint) on the island of Møn. In this article, I will tell you all about our visit to the Møns cliffs. If you are looking a place to stay nearby, I can recommend the old-fashioned holiday home that I stayed in on the island of Nyord.

THE VISIT

We parked at the official parking lot which is paid, but from what I remember it was not very expensive. From there, we walked through a wooded area and along some boardwalks to the cliffs of Møn.

You can go down to the beach as well, but be aware that it is a lot of stairs and you will need to come back up eventually. You are allowed to hunt for fossils on the beach, but if you are not interested in that I would recommend not going all the way down. You get a nice view already from around the half-way point.

Unlike at the cliffs of Stevns Klint which we visited in Zealand, we were surprised that there didn’t really seem to be hiking trails in the area, so it was a rather short visit although we had budgeted more time.

HOW LONG IT TAKES AND WHO IT’S FOR

We only spent around one hour walking here, walking down to the beach and back up.

Honestly we did not find it as interesting as some of the other places that we visited during out trip to Denmark. I wouldn’t budget too much time here.

Do be aware that going down to the beach means stairs. Lots of stairs. The way back up was quite strenuous, although my dog took it in stride. Older dogs may struggle!

THE BOTTOM LINE

If you are in the area, stopping at Møns Klint for a short visit is a decent choice. However, I would not go out of my way to come here. If you have to decide, the cliffs at Stevns Klint on Zealand are more interesting in my opinion.
