A trip with my dog to La Roche à Sept Heures viewpoint near Monthermé, France

This March, I took a trip with my dog to Monthermé in the Ardennes region of France. While we were there, we visited the marvellous viewpoint at La Roche à Sept Heures.

If you are considering to take a trip to this region with your dog, I can recommend the holiday home that we stayed at. It was in a great location to reach the La Roche à Sept Heures viewpoint quickly.

In this article, I will tell you all about visiting this famous viewpoint over the Ardennes region with your dog.

THE ROUTE

You can follow a circular hiking route from the tourist information or follow a shorter route from this parking lot, which is what we chose to do.

From the parking lot, follow the marked route up the stairs through a patch of forest, until you reach the viewpoint. There is also a bench right at the top, so make sure to take a moment to fully enjoy the view.

Did you know that “La Roche à sept heures” translates as “The 7-o’clock-rock”? It is named this way because it is kissed by the sun every day at 7 o’clock. We went around 10am and it was still beautiful and sunny, so a visit is recommend at other times of the day too.

HOW LONG IT TAKES AND WHO IT’S FOR

We spent only around 30 minutes here as we were on our way to another destination. However, longer hiking routes are available to follow. It’s also a beautiful spot to take a rest and have a picnic.

The path up had some stairs but there was another route to avoid them. However, that route was also a little steep for a short portion. Afterwards it was relatively easy.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Overall, this was a very nice spot to visit with your dog. You have a great view over the Ardennes region and from the parking lot the route is quite easy and does not take too long. If you are in the area, make sure to take a quick stop here!
