Where to stay near Saint-Émilion in France with a dog

This March, I took a trip with my dog to visit the Château Cantenac estate, a family owned winery near the town of Saint-Émilion.

During our trip, we stayed in this hotel which was a good choice overall. For a full breakdown of my accommodation experience near Saint-Émilion, read the review below.

DOG FRIENDLINESS

My dog was very welcome here. There was a small surcharge of 5 EUR applied.

THE LOCATION

The hotel is in a good location to visit the Château Cantenac winery. It is just a short walk away. Please don’t walk along the main road as it is quite dangerous, you can easily reach the estate through by walking through the vineyards behind the hotel instead.

If you are not looking to visit the winery but want to spend time in the village itself, I would recommend staying overnight in another location though.

THE ROOM

The room was compact but functional. I had a little trouble finding a good spot for my dog’s box, but we managed. There was a large bed which was overall comfortable, although it was noticeable that it had two mattresses and the space in the middle was quite hard. There was also a desk with a chair, a closet and a little stool.

As I said, functional, but I have definitely stayed in more comfortable hotel rooms before. They do have a very nice outdoor area though.

THE SERVICE

The service was very nice. All the staff that I interacted with were friendly and helpful.

It was possible to take the breakfast to the room and one of the staff members even helped me with the doors and the tray.

The breakfast cost 12.90 EUR which I initially thought was a bit much, but there was a good amount of choice and they focussed on local products which I appreciated.

Definitely a good start to the day.

THE VALUE

We ended up paying just over 90 EUR for one night plus the cost for breakfast, which I thought was acceptable value. Parking was included free of charge.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Overall, this was a decent but not outstanding stay. I mostly chose this hotel for its location because I wanted to sample the wine at Château Cantenac without needing to drive. For that, it served its purpose and I would rate it a 4 out of 5, mostly because of the kind staff. Without this specific use case, I would choose another accommodation next time though as there certainly is better value to be had.
