This March, I took a trip with my dog to the Bordeaux region in France.
During this trip, I also visited the Château Cantenac estate, a family owned winery near the town of Saint-Émilion. Afterwards, I visited the small town of Langoiran which is best known for its vineyards as well as its castle – the Château de Langoiran.
In this article, I will tell you all about our trip to Langoiran.
THE ROUTE
We parked at the church of Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens which is a worthy stop in its own right. Just behind the church, you can find some hiking trails as well as beautiful views over the Langoiran vineyards.

From there, it is only a short walk up to the Langoiran castle. Alternatively, you can also drive up to the castle, but the last bit of road might be a bit rough on your car. If you are able, I would recommend walking.
The parts of the castle that remain today date back as early as the 13th century. The belfry is particularly noteworthy. It not only has the thickest walls, but also the largest diameter among all known belfries in the south of France. Pretty impressive!
HOW LONG IT TAKES AND WHO IT’S FOR
We spent around an hour walking around Langoiran, up to the castle and back. Unfortunately we were not able to visit the castle as it was not open when we came. I am therefore also not sure if the castle itself is dog friendly or not. If you plan to visit the castle, I would suggest leaving yourself more time.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Langoiran was a nice short stop with my dog, featuring some gorgeous views and a nice stroll up to a medieval castle. I would not go out of my way to come here, but if you are in the area it is good option for a quick break.
