A trip with my dog to Orbaneja de Castillo waterfall near Burgos, Spain

This March, I took a trip with my dog to the Burgos region in Spain. While we were there, we not only visited Burgos itself but we also took a little detour to see the wonderful waterfall at Orbaneja de Castillo.

In this article, I will tell you all about our trip to the Cascada de Orbaneja de Castillo.

THE ROUTE

Orbaneja de Castillo is about a 1 hour car drive away from Burgos in the province of Castile and León in Spain.

As you approach the town, be sure to take in the scenic views of the area, for example looking down onto the town of Escalada.

Once you reach Orbaneja de Castillo, there are multiple parking lots available. The closest one to the waterfall but also the smallest overall is this one. The other ones are not much further though. We stayed in the ample Parking Lot 3 and walked not even one minute to the waterfall.

The waterfall is a very pretty sight. It comes down just next to some houses and you can walk up the stairs to see it from different viewpoints. At the bottom, there are pools of very clear turquoise water. Of course my dog had to take a sample!

The best recommendation that I can give is to take a picnic, sit down next to the waterfall and enjoy the view for a bit.

HOW LONG IT TAKES AND WHO IT’S FOR

We spent only around 30 minutes here as the day was already quite packed, but you can definitely take more time and explore more of the area. For example, the waterfall of Cascada del Tobazo is nearby as well, so if you are in the mood for more of a hike this could be a good option to extend your stay.

As there is ample parking right next to the waterfall, this beautiful natural sight is accessible to everyone – it is not necessary to walk up the stairs to enjoy it.

THE BOTTOM LINE

The waterfall at Orbaneja de Castillo was a nice short stop with my dog. We enjoyed the pretty sights and she was happy getting her paws wet in the little pools. If you are in the Burgos area, this waterfall is worth a short trip.
