This March, I took a trip with my dog to Getaria which is located in the autonomous Basque country region in the northern part of Spain.
During our trip, we stayed in this home which was a very good choice overall. For a full breakdown of my accommodation experience near Getaria, read the review below.
DOG FRIENDLINESS
My dog was very welcome here. There was no surcharge applied. The owners have a very sweet 3-year old dog as well and the dogs can roam around freely if desired.
THE LOCATION
The home is in a very beautiful location in the basque countryside. You can enjoy gorgeous views over the region right from their terrace. Just nearby, there are some hiking trails as well where you can see panoramic views of the San Anton hill and downtown Getaria. If you are looking for a calm stay among nature, this place is a dream.

To reach the village of Getaria, you do need a car. You can park right at the port and walk up the San Anton hill for some nice views in the other direction. Unfortunately the weather caught up to us so we did not make it to the top, but it’s a nice spot for a walk with your dog for sure.
THE ROOM
The room was decorated beautifully and had everything that I needed. It featured a large bed, a desk, a closet, an armchair and a bathroom. They were also very kind to provide me with a small space heater to make it nice and cozy.

The common area was very nice and comfortable as well. There was even a machine for coffee, and a small fridge for each room. Some fruits, tea, and other goodies were provided free of charge. So lovely!
The one complaint that I would have about the room is that the walls were very thin. You could clearly hear the neighbors in the second guest room as well as in the common area. It was as if they were in your room. If you stay here, do bring earplugs! Still I would 100% come again because everything else was perfect.
THE SERVICE
The service was exceptionally nice. The host family lives in part of the house and the second half has two guest rooms and the large common area. Both of the hosts were incredibly kind and made sure that I had everything that I needed. There were lots of small details that I did not expect and that made my stay that much better.
THE VALUE
We ended up paying 110 EUR for one night, which I admit: It is not cheap. However, the place is beautiful, the hosts are so kind and the stay was very refreshing. I still think this was good value.
BONUS TIP
Did you know that Getaria is the birth place of the famous fashion designer Cristóbal Balenciaga? I had no idea, but it is true. There is a museum dedicated to him in the town. Understandably it is not dog-friendly, but if you are interested in fashion, why not give it a go?
THE BOTTOM LINE
Overall, this was a very nice stay. The hospitality in particular was exceptional. We were a bit unlucky with the weather, but now I have a reason to return again. This place is one to repeat for sure. A clear 5 out of 5 for me and many thanks to the hosts!
